A cut in rates would not, at a stroke, herald the start of the upturn.
While it would be naive to suggest that a cut in rates will singlehandedly solve the problems the UK economy faces, it should help to assure companies that we can weather the storm.
Although many had been hoping for a cut in rates they had not been expecting it to come this month.
