Numerous friends and allies, systems commands,
commercial shipping firms, and others are fielding AIS initiatives at
varying levels of maturity. Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) for commercial vessels are
similar to what radio transponders are for aircraft--using VHF radio
frequencies, AIS send and receive data, such as vessel direction, speed,
and identification in hopes of avoiding collisions. Retailers can use AIS networks to send a dedicated phone number to
each customer, who can call the number and make a settlement using
either an interactive voice response system or WAP. |
