A city of western Romania on the Mureul River near the Hungarian border. Ruled by Turkey and later by Hungary, it became part of Romania in 1920. Population: 169,000.

The proposed location for the ferries' dock is behind Arad Fort, which is already a tourist attraction promoted by the Culture and Information Ministry.
