The largest city and former official capital of Côte d'Ivoire, in the southern part of the country on an enclosed lagoon of the Gulf of Guinea. Although Yamoussoukro was designated the new capital in 1983, Abidjan remains the administrative center. Population: 2,880,000.

Byline: Daily Star Staff Summary: <p>A Lebanese man living in the Ivory Coast capital of Abidjan absconded with $15 million given to him by Lebanese expatriates to return to their families in Lebanon, said a report in daily An-Nahar.
The pair were charged "in the last week of July," state prosecutor Raymond Tchimou told AFP in Abidjan from Paris, confirming a report in the French daily newspaper Liberation.
FIFA's Disciplinary Committee said only 20,000 spectators could be allowed into the stadium for the Ivorians' next World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Abidjan on September 5, instead of the capacity crowd of 34,600.
