n.
1. A theatrical performer.
2. One who takes part; a participant: "France, Britain . . . and any other external actors now involved . . . in the affairs of the continent" (Helen Kitchen).
3. Law One, such as the manager of a business, who acts for another.

1. (Performing Arts / Theatre) a person who acts in a play, film, broadcast, etc.
2. Informal a person who puts on a false manner in order to deceive others (often in the phrase bad actor)
Usage: To avoid referring to people by their gender, actor is often used as a general term for women and men who act.

actor actress
