DeFelice, MD, has spearheaded nutraceutical research worldwide since the mid-1960s, after clinical studies he and colleagues conducted on carnitine, a naturally occurring substance required by the heart for energy, demonstrated that carnitine reduces the toxic effect of the anticancer drug Adriamycin on the heart.
In one recent study by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Shizuoka, Japan*, research showed that green tea, when combined with the drug Adriamycin, was more effective in treating a certain kind of ovarian sarcoma (cancer of the ovaries) than using the adriamycin alone.
