| Current research conducted at the MIT Affective Computing Research
Group aims at developing new computational theories of affect and
learning through studying, testing, modeling, and giving computers the
ability to recognize common affective states expressed by users while
interacting with computers (for example, frustration, confusion, fear,
distress, or joy). Current research areas include
wireless "viral" communication, affective computing, robotics,
machines capable of common-sense reasoning, new forms of artistic
expression, "smart" prostheses and how children learn. She is
currently working in the fascinating area of affective computing,
researching how computers can understand and respond to human emotion
