Born Agnes Bojaxhiu, she took the name Sister Teresa in Ireland, where she began her training as a nun with the Loreto Sisters.
From Skopje in Macedonia, Mother Teresa - real name Agnes Bojaxhiu - founded her order in 1948 and went to work in the slums of Calcutta.
Born Agnes Bojaxhiu (1910) in Skopje, then part of the Ottoman Empire, she took the name Sister Teresa in Ireland, where she began her training as a nun with the Loreto Sisters.
