Many authors of literary satire therefore often use multiple comic masks as an aid to indirection, creating such celebrated pseudonymous personae as Samuel Clemens' Mark Twain, Solomon Rabinovitsh's Sholem Aleichem, Sholem Yankev Abramovitsh's Mendele Moykher-Sforim, and Itskhak Reiz's Moyshe Nadir, which was such an effective pseudonym that most literary studies, including this one, and encyclopedia entries refer to him almost exclusively by his pseudonym.
