Born Alisa Rosenbaum in Russia in 1905, Rand immigrated to the United States in 1926 and thoroughly reinvented herself in real life far more successfully than Jay Gatsby ever managed to do in fiction.
Mind you, so have the devotees of the Alisa Rosenbaum (Ayn Rand) cult.
The mostly historical volume, as Berliner writes, is ``clearly the work of a teen-age Alisa Rosenbaum, who had not yet become Ayn Rand'' and includes reproductions of her Russian language essays, translated by Dina Garmong.
