when Galileo flies within 500 km of the inner Jovian moon Amalthea in
November, it will be blind. In November 2002, Galileo will venture closer to Jupiter than
ever before, coming within 500 km of its tiny moon Amalthea, which is
less than one-tenth Io's size. As it neared Io, the craft also captured
portraits of Metis, Amalthea, and Thebe, three of Jupiter's small,
innermost moons. |
