Amundsen Gulf

An inlet of the Arctic Ocean in Northwest Territories, Canada, opening on the Beaufort Sea. It was first navigated completely by Roald Amundsen during his 1903-1906 expedition to the region.

Two species of cetacea, the beluga whale (Deiphinapterus leucas) and the bowhead whale (Balaena mysticetus), are seasonal migrants to the southeastern Beaufort Sea and Amundsen Gulf, both within the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR) in Canada's Western Arctic (INAC, 1984).
