Major depressive
disorder is characterized by at least 4 of the following symptoms:
depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure in most activities, change
in weight or appetite, increased or decreased sleep, increased or
decreased psychomotor activity, fatigue or anergia, feelings of
worthlessness or guilt, decreased ability to think, and recurrent
thoughts of death or suicide. This disabling anergia becomes evident when CMP
clients "completely lose their initiative and zeal for work"
(Blumer and Heilbronn, 1981). |
