An officer in local government whose duty is to enforce ordinances regulating the ownership of animals and to respond to incidents in which animals are involved.

Animal control is a vital public-service and law-enforcement agency - one that is taken for granted or ignored until a major disaster hits or until dog packs menace people or attack children.
If the dog can be subdued by another person or if the dog'' owner is in the vicinity, it will need to be held by an animal control officer.
Many local governments on Reserves have passed bylaws that allow animal control to put down stray dogs and some have even offered bounties on the heads of stray dogs, offering money for any strays that are turned in.
