Many BDD patients develop severe social anxiety disorder or depression.
In the doctor's medical opinion, Burnett's service-connected anxiety disorder with denial and avoidance contributed to his death because it contributed to his inability to quit smoking and to avoid seeking medical treatment after he was diagnosed with cancer.
This finding suggests that project administrators may need to examine more effective methods to accommodate persons with an anxiety disorder at the enrollment stage of the recruitment process.
