Scientifically, this is called aposematic coloration, which basically is when coloration is used to scare off predators.
Nonetheless, many snake species exhibit defensive or elusive behaviors such as cryptic and aposematic coloration, and mimetism (La Marca and Soriano 2004, Lancini 1986, Lotzkat 2007).
