Japanese aralia (Fatsia japonica) is strictly for shade and has large, deeply lobed leaves to prove it.
Q: I planted an aralia last November in a glazed ceramic pot that is about 24 inches in diameter and 15 inches deep with a dish.
Tall specimens of false aralia (Schefflera elegantissima), tupidanthus (Schefflera pueckleri) and giant bird of paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) were set in large pots only two weeks ago.
