The second five essays are on 'superstition, tradition and the other world' and are concerned with Archbishop Ussher as a prophet; John Knox; astrology and eschatology during France's wars of religion; the writings of Protestant demonologists; and the debate over ghosts in England from 1558 to 1625.
Archbishop Ussher scrapes in, though his biblical chronology hardly matches (say) Archbishop Temple's social conscience as an influence on recent Presbyterianism.
