(Placename) a town in W central England, in W Worcestershire, on the River Avon: scene of the Battle of Evesham in 1265 (Lord Edward's defeat of Simon de Montfort and the barons); centre of the Vale of Evesham, famous for market gardens and orchards. Pop.: 17 823 (1991)
