Patients who make a serious suicide attempt and have a family history of suicide are more likely to have bipolar disorder, compared with suicide attempters without those two characteristics, according to a small retrospective study.
This investigation therefore demonstrated that suicide attempters and malingerers do not appear to be mutually exclusive groups and that correctional personnel cannot assume that individuals who are considered to be malingering are not at risk of suicide and have no intent to die.
The female sex, adolescence and domestic violence are reported as risk factors for the suicide attempters of immigrant populations.
