Australopithicus afarensis This species, the southern ape from Afar (an area in Ethiopia), is best known by the skeleton Lucy, discovered in 1974 by US palaeontologist Don Johanson.
This logical condition carries with it a critical narrowing of options (evolution does not proceed from an adult Australopithicus afarensis to an adult Homo sapiens) while simultaneously providing for an ample sample.
