Range of events across region RETURN OF THE AVOCETS WEARSIDE is on the brink of setting a UK wildlife record.
Two avocets - a graceful black-and-white waterbird which is the famous emblem of the RSPB - appeared at the reserve in Llandudno Junction on Saturday, April 18 and have been seen by hundreds of visitors to the site.
Traditionally avocets nest in southern England, but since 2006 a pair has been returning each year and hatching chicks at Washington Wetland Centre.
