| In 1944, a conflict between Azikiwe and his rival Ernest Ikoli, an Ijaw, led to the breakup of the NYM. For Africans--and the wider black diaspora--names such as Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, Nnamdi Azikiwe, L[acute{e}]opold S[acute{e}]dar Senghor, S[acute{e}]kou Tour[acute{e}], Jomo Kenyatta, Milton Obote and Seretse Khama will never wholly lose their glamour and allure. Emeka Ayo Azikiwe of Nigeria, Conference President for March, recalled that over the years several disarmament agreements had been concluded within the multilateral disarmament negotiating forum, all of them in the context of the Conference of the 18-Nation Committee on Disarmament and the Conference of the Committee on Disarmament. |
