Saxophonist and composer Tim Garland - who has worked alongside such jazz greats as Chick Corea, Gary Burton and Ronnie Scott - has joined up with classical violinist Bradley Creswick, leader of the Northern Sinfonia, to offer a new slant on two of Bach's most popular works, the Oboe Concerto in D minor, BWV 1059, and the Double Concerto in C minor, BWV 1060.
He describes historical interpretations of the ornaments, compares them to contemporary practice, and collects and annotates every ornament from each movement of the six suites, to investigate their accurate performance, using a method based on information from treatises such as those by CPE Bach and Frederick Neumann, examples from Bach's music, and analysis of harmonic structure.
