The recipe for Bakewell tart is supposedly a secret known only in Bakewell and the hotel's attempt was pleasant without quite matching what you get at the source, so a trip to the famous market town was essential.
Entrants have to hunt their way through batches of Bakewell Tarts to find the golden key to the cottage.
So guess that means next time I'm in Oxford, a walk to Jamie's Italian and two spoons with the Italian Bakewell tart served lemon and orange crE me fraiche, so we can share, damn.
