Joe Barbera, who died Monday in his Sherman Oaks home, was one those rare people whose life's work as an animator touched virtually every American alive today.
Caption: Petty Officer 2nd Class Barbera Silkwood, a Navy journalist assigned to a battalion of Seabees (who handle construction for the Navy), slithered through muddy water and under barbed wire in March as she negotiated the endurance course at the Jungle Warfare Training Center at Camp Gonslaves in Okinawa, Japan.
Scooby-Doo was first produced by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1969 as CBS's flagship cartoon, "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You"?
