To supplement lost income from wood gathering, the project has set up bee-keeping efforts, guinea fowl rearing, fruit juice processing and seedling production. Instructional stations with bee-keeping, net-enclosed butterfly gardens, hissing cockroaches and other attractions are set up throughout the zoo. Bee-keeping is central to the story, as it is the Boatwright sister's livelihood, but it also serves as metaphor for Lily's search for her mother's love. |
