Polish Corridor
A strip of land between the German territories of Pomerania and East Prussia awarded to Poland by the Treaty of Versailles (1919) to afford access to the Baltic Sea. Friction over control of the area was an immediate cause of the German invasion of Poland (September 1, 1939) that marked the beginning of World War II.
