Pope (since 2005). As head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (1981-2005) under John Paul II, he was a staunch defender of conservative dogma.

CORDOBA, Spain -- The Islamic Board of Spain has appealed to Pope Benedict XVI to allow Muslims to pray in the Cordoba cathedral.
The New York Times reported that Zen has been given "considerable discretion" by Pope Benedict XVI to speak on issues involving China.
Benedict XVI is a distinguished Catholic theologian, but he is not an expert on Islam.
