Ber·noul·li's law  (br-nlz)
[After Jakob Bernoulli.]

Bernoulli's law  (br-nlz)
1. A law of fluid mechanics stating the relationship between the velocity, density, and pressure of a fluid. Mathematically, the law states that P + 1/2 v2 = constant, where P is the pressure (in newtons per square meter), is the density of the fluid (in kilograms per square meter), and v is the velocity (in meters per second). If no energy is added to the system, an increase in velocity is accompanied by a decrease in density and/or pressure. The law is directly related to the principle of conservation of energy. See also Bernoulli effect.
