Given that Bewick's swans migrate 2,200 miles from the frozen wastes of Siberia to winter in the UK every year, the swan will have travelled at least 100,000 miles.
MORE proof the world's gone mad - it was reported yesterday that thousands of Bewick's swans, which have normally arrived to spend the winter in Britain by late October, have so far failed to turn up.
Some 300 Bewick's swans – of the 8,000 or so which usually make the annual flight west to the UK – were expected at Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre in Gloucestershire by 21 October but have not yet been sighted.
