Given their eighteenth- and nineteenth-century perspectives, it seems that in the minds of many biblicists, the ancient apocalypticists with their eschatological hopes were essentially authors of fiction who proceeded in a manner quite similar to modern, literate science-fiction authors.
If it were a matter of theology, surely biblicists would notice the problems.
