Black Hawk Originally Makataimeshekiakiak. 1767-1838.
Sauk leader. Resenting an 1804 treaty that ceded all Sauk and Fox lands east of the Mississippi River to the United States, he led 1,000 Fox and Sauk warriors in the Black Hawk War (1832).
