prowazekii have been rarely reported in the United States: only 39 cases were reported from 1976 to 2001, all in persons who had no reported contact with body lice but did have contact with flying squirrels (7,8).
When even the homeless decided they had better ways to spend their time, more extras were recruited, given the same costumes - and caught body lice from the clothing.
For example, head lice live only in the hairs of the human head; body lice have adapted to live in clothing.
