Verdi's librettist Arrigo Boito merged ``The Merry Wives of Windsor'' with material from ``Henry IV, Parts I and II'' to create ``Falstaff.
In 1896 Verdi wrote to his friend Boito that musical "Te Deums" were usually performed "at great, solemn, noisy celebrations for a victory or a coronation.
The current arrangement of statues and reliefs dates from 1895 when the architect Camillo Boito attempted the first modern reconstruction of Donatello's altar.
