American actor noted for his portrayal of decent, down-to-earth individuals in films such as The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and On Golden Pond (1981), for which he won an Academy Award. His daughter Jane (born 1937) won an Academy Award for Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1978).

Raised and educated in Tarzana and Sherman Oaks, Yelchin, a thoughtful and serious actor, made his film debut in 1999 at age9 in the indie film ``A Man is Mostly Water,'' and he has worked continuously since then in films such as ``Hearts in Atlantis'' with Anthony Hopkins and ``Delivering Milo'' opposite Albert Finney and Bridget Fonda.
Securing Al Pacino, John Cusack and Bridget Fonda as leads, Lipper produced the film in 1996, which drew praise for its gritty and insightful portrayal of New York City politics and government.
He also starred in the picture, along with Vince Vaughn, Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Reubens, Bridget Fonda and Peter Fonda.
