Brigh·ton  (brtn)
A borough of southeast England on the English Channel south of London. It became a fashionable resort after 1783 when the Prince of Wales (later George IV) began to patronize it. The Royal Pavilion, in a combination of Chinese and Mogul styles, was designed by the noted architect John Nash (1752-1835). Population: 134,000.
