An investigation found two patients with confirmed brucellosis from Brucella suis infection and one patient with possible brucellosis, all associated with feral swine hunting.
The Brucella suis genome reveals fundamental similarities between animal and plant pathogens and symbionts.
Currently, of the six main species of Brucella, four have moderate-to-significant pathogenicity for humans: * Brucella suis (from pigs; high pathogenicity); * Brucella melitensis (from sheep; highest pathogenicity); * Brucella abortus (from cattle; moderate pathogenicity); and * Brucella canis (from dogs; moderate pathogenicity).
