By 1917, the four large muck-dredged canals that dissected the Everglades, together with the Caloosahatchee River, dropped Okeechobee from about 22 feet above sea level to between 17 and 19. Fort Myers is located in Lee County in southwest Florida, bordered to the north and west by the Caloosahatchee River. |
