Theobromine, green tea extract, Garcinia cambogia and the old-mainstay of caffeine will now be the key fighters in Americans' quest for slimmer waistlines, replacing the popular supplement linked to more than 100 deaths.
In Mexico, 18 obese men and women took 1,500 mg of a garcinia cambogia extract each day and were told to eat a 1,000-to-1,500-calorie diet.
And extracts of Garcinia cambogia, an ingredient in more than 30 dietary supplements marketed for weight loss, were found to have no effectiveness whatsoever in a study by Columbia University researchers.
