Ca·ra·cas  (k-räks)
The capital of Venezuela, in the northern part of the country near the Caribbean coast. Founded by the Spanish in 1567, it grew rapidly during the oil boom of the 1950s, and is the country's commercial, industrial, and cultural hub. Population: 1,830,000.
