Chal·de·a or Chal·dae·a  (kl-d)

An ancient region of southern Mesopotamia. Settled c. 1000 b.c., it reached the height of its power under Nebuchadnezzar II. The Chaldean empire was destroyed by Persians in 539 b.c.
