Cham·bers·burg  (chmbrz-bûrg)
A borough of southern Pennsylvania southwest of Harrisburg. It was burned by the Confederate cavalry in July 1864 after the townspeople refused to pay an indemnity of $100,000 in gold. Population: 17,900.
