A poster of comedic actor Jack Oakie at the height of his movie career in the 1930s and 1940s appears in front of the real Oakie and his wife, former character actress Victoria Horne Oakie, in their later years together before his death in 1978 at age 74. Although she's made some movies (see Woody Allen's September), Stritch is most famous in the theater as a salty, one-of-a-kind comic personality who has always been a character actress, not a leading lady. Dennis Hopper, Cloris Leachman, Pam Dawber, Peter Reckell and Lauren Koslow from "Days of Our Lives," Steven Culp and Mark Moses from "Desperate Housewives," Victor Williams from "The King of Queens," Bryan Cranston from "Malcom in the Middle," Richard Steinmetz from "Passions," Charles Shaughnessy of "The Nanny" fame, Ron Moss from "The Bold and the Beautiful," and character actress Kathy Joosten were among many guests who attended this fundraising event. |
