n.
Highly absorbent carbon obtained by heating granulated charcoal to exhaust contained gases, resulting in a highly porous form with a very large surface area. It is used primarily for purifying gases by adsorption, solvent recovery, or deodorization and as an antidote to certain poisons. Also called activated carbon.

As a refined version of charcoal, activated carbon is made by super heating organic material like wood or coconut shells.
The intent is that, while the deep roots of the mallees will help reduce salinity by suppressing underground salts from rising, branches will be harvested (without the need to kill or remove adult trees) and processed to produce eucalyptus oil, charcoal, activated carbon (for filtering systems) and electricity.
