From the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, the Russian security apparatus Cheka (and its later permutations: OGPU, NKVD, MGB, KGB) had been the "sword and shield" of the communist world revolution. The NKVD, like the Cheka before it and the KGB after it, operated throughout the USSR and surely should be identified as the Soviet secret police. During eight days of interrogation, he was brought face to face with Dzershinsky, the founder of the Cheka himself. |
