``It is not a program for those who think they can make a quick, illegal buck for themselves by cheating the taxpayers who fund the program and depriving legitimate recipients from getting the child care necessary to help them develop the skills that ultimately will get them off the welfare rolls. Arriving in time for the upcoming parliamentary debate on federal child care funding policy, Statistics Canada reports that a growing number of Canadian children aged six months to five years are in some form of non-parental childcare. A coalition comprising the ACTU, the National Association of Community Based Children's Services (NACBCS) and the Taskforce on Care Costs (TOCC*) has called on the federal government to put an 'end to the child care wars'. |
