It transpired that the vet who treated her had seen five similarly injured animals in recent weeks and it is thought her wounds were caused by an attack from a Chinese water deer.
You may even come across the introduced Chinese water deer - a bizarre looking creature with short protruding tusks used in courtship rituals, which lives in the reedbeds.
There are six varieties of deer in Britain: the red and the roe deer,both native to this country,and the fallow, sika, muntjac and the Chinese water deer.
