A colorless crystalline compound, C8Cl4N2,used as a fungicide on a variety of vegetable crops, peanuts, lawns, and turfs and as a preservative in paints and adhesives.

The two preventive fungicides were Headline from BASF Corporation and chlorothalonil from MANA; the four curative fungicides were Orius and Bumper from MANA, Folicure from Bayer CropScience and Laredo from Dow AgroSciences; the two that were both curative and preventive fungicides were Quilt from Syngenta Crop Protection and Stratego from Bayer.
Among the chemicals used are chlorpyrifos, an organophosphate insecticide whose residential uses are banned by the EPA due to developmental hazards; carbaryl, a carbamate insecticide; and chlorothalonil, an organochlorine fungicide.
