clostridium [klɒˈstrɪdɪəm] n pl -iums, -ia [-ɪə] (Life Sciences & Allied Applications / Microbiology) any anaerobic typically rod-shaped bacterium of the genus Clostridium, occurring mainly in soil, but also in the intestines of humans and animals: family Bacillaceae.
